Coconut oil: From production to its multiple uses

Coconut oil is a versatile and highly valued product that gives flavor and benefits in cooking and personal care. Its uses are almost endless: from giving an exotic hint to a recipe to becoming a key ingredient in creams and balms.

Nonetheless, it all begins with the same step, starting from cropping and selecting fresh coconuts, as the raw material quality determines the final aroma, flavour, and attributes.

Selection and Raw Materials Preparation

After harvesting, the coconuts are carefully opened to extract the white pulp, which is cleaned, removing remains of peel or fibers that could alter the purity of the oil.

Types of Coconut Oil and Their Preparation

Starting from the pulp, the process varies depending on the final desired result:

  • Virgin coconut oil: the pulp is cold-pressed. This way, the nutrients, antioxidants, and its tropical aroma are perfectly maintained.
  • Refined coconut oil: the pulp is dried before being pressed and then goes through filtering and treatments that neutralize its smell and flavor. The result is a more neutral oil, ideal for cooking and with great stability against oxidation.

In both cases, the oil is filtered and packaged, protecting it from light and heat, to preserve its freshness and quality for longer.

Uses of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is perfect for:

  • Cooking: can resist high temperatured, which makes it ideal for baking and frying.
  • Cosmetics: moisturizes, softens and nourishes the skin and hair. Commonly used in creams, hair masks and body oils
  • Handmade production: used in natural soaps, candles, ointments and hygiene products.

Thanks to its versatility, long shelf life and unique characteristics, coconut oil has gained a privileged place in homes around the world, easily adapting to cooking, personal care and handmade production.
