Our lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the skin, and during changes in temperature, especially in winter, it is common for them to dry out and crack. To keep them soft, hydrated and healthy, there is nothing better than a homemade lip balm. Not only do you avoid the chemicals in commercial balms, but you can also customize the recipe with natural ingredients that care for and nourish the delicate skin of your lips.
Homemade lip balm has several advantages over commercial ones:
- Natural ingredients: By making it yourself, you know exactly what’s in it. You can choose essential oils, butters, and waxes that are completely natural and suitable for your skin.
- Chemical-free: Many commercial balms contain paraffins and preservatives that can irritate the skin. Homemade balms allow you to avoid these ingredients.
- Personalization: You can choose the fragrance or therapeutic benefits of essential oils that you like best, such as lavender for relaxation or peppermint for a cooling effect.
- Deep hydration: Ingredients like beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil help seal in moisture and keep lips soft for hours.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon beeswax
- 1 tablespoon shea or cocoa butter
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 5-10 drops of essential oil (lavender, peppermint, rosehip or any other you prefer)
- 1 teaspoon sweet almond oil (optional, for added hydration)
Instructions:
- Melt the wax: In a small container, place the beeswax, shea or cocoa butter, and coconut oil. Melt it over low heat or in a double boiler, stirring so that it is well integrated.
- Add essential oils: Once the mixture is completely melted, remove it from the heat and add your chosen essential oil. If you want a more hydrating balm, you can also add sweet almond oil in this step.
- Pour into containers: Pour the mixture into small empty lip balm jars or tubes. Let it cool to room temperature until it hardens completely.
- Storage: Store your homemade lip balm in a cool, dry place. Ready to use!
Customization options
- Aromas: You can experiment with different essential oils according to your preferences. Lavender is perfect for a relaxing touch, mint offers a pleasant freshness, and citrus such as orange or lemon provides a refreshing and energizing touch.
- Color: If you want a lip balm with a touch of color, you can add a little red clay or grated beets.
