July 11th – International Essential Oils Day

Concentrated Nature, Tradition and Well-being

Few know it, but every July 11th, International Essential Oils Day takes place. Although it is not an especially popular date, it does offer a good opportunity to give visibility to the value that these natural extracts have in different areas such as health, cosmetics, cleaning, food, or emotional well-being.

What Are Essential Oils?

They are volatile extracts that are obtained from different parts of plants (leaves, flowers, bark, or fruits). through processes such as distillation or cold pressing. Each one has a specific chemical composition that gives it specific properties. Lavender, for example, is associated with rest; The tea tree stands out for its purifying action, especially in skin care; and lemon is often used for its revitalizing effect and freshness.

An Ancient Use with Modern Recognition

The use of essential oils has very ancient roots. Civilizations such as the Egyptian, Indian, and Chinese used them in rituals, traditional medicine, or body care. Although their use has evolved, the idea remains the same: take advantage of what plants offer to improve physical and emotional well-being. It was in 2018 that International Essential Oil Day was officially established. The initiative arose as a tribute to D. Gary Young, promoter of professional cultivation and dissemination of essential oils at a global level. Since then, every July 11 is proposed as a date to promote their use. Responsible and sustainable.

Current uses

Today, essential oils are present in numerous products and everyday practices. They are used in aromatherapy to relieve stress or improve mood, but also in cosmetic formulations, in home cleaning, or even as flavorings in the food industry, always with a very controlled dosage.
Their versatility has made them easily integrated into lifestyles that opt for the natural, although not always with the rigor they deserve.

What to Do on a Day like This?

Although it is not a particularly recognized day, it can serve as a moment to stop and pay attention to these products. You can start with something simple: try an oil that has not been used before, perhaps looking for an aroma that fits the mood of the day. It is also a good time to review labels, understand where the products we use come from, or check if the brand we choose works with transparency. Another option is to share information with other people. Sometimes a conversation or a recommendation can awaken interest in nature in someone who has never thought about it.

You don’t need to do anything extraordinary; just approach these small gestures consciously. Essential oils don’t cure everything, but they do offer an accessible way to reconnect with nature and with certain traditions that still make sense today.
